In the music industry, as in many other industries, innovation generates controversy. New products and technologies, whether streaming, cloud-based or mobile apps, arouse excitement, frustration or fear. This debate highlights the perspectives of music makers, rights owners and collecting societies on the capacity of the music industry to embrace disruption and leverage this creative renaissance.

Jean-Noël Tronc worked for the European Parliament, Andersen Consulting and France's Center for Strategic Planning before being appointed "IT and Internet" advisor to France's Prime Minister from 1997 to 2002.
After five years with France Telecom/Orange (2002-2007), where he became CEO of Orange France, he spent three years as Chairman and CEO of Canal+ Overseas, running the Canal Plus Group's pay-tv business in French overseas territories and international operations.
He has been appointed CEO of Sacem in June 2012. He is also Vice-President of GESAC (European group of authors’ societies).
He is a graduate of the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris and of Essec business school.

Mr. Rennie has worked in the music business for over 30 years. He has a broad range of experience as a concert promoter, record executive, internet entrepreneur, and artist manager. Mr. Rennie has been the personal manager for multi-platinum rock band Incubus for the last 16 years and has guided them from the day they got signed to a record deal to being a hugely successful worldwide record selling, concert attraction. He was a founding member of ARTIST DIRECT and served as the Senior Vice President/GM of Epic Records/Sony Music.  Prior to joining Sony Music he managed a number of Alternative Rock artists including Primal ScreamThe TheDramaramaThe Wonder Stuff, and Ned’s Atomic Dustbin. He was also the Senior VP at Southern California’s #1 concert promoter Avalon Attractions, which is now part of Live Nation, booking shows from clubs on the Sunset Strip to stadium shows at the Rose Bowl and Coliseum.  He currently is working on a new project, Renman Music & Business, and hosts a web show every Monday, Wednesday and Friday on RenmanMB.com

Helienne Lindvall is an award winning professional songwriter, musician, and music and media writer for the Guardian. Born and raised in Sweden, she moved to New York City in her early twenties where she worked as a session singer, recording artist and performer. After relocating to London she signed a publishing deal with BMG Publishing Scandinavia, working with recording artists on both sides of the Atlantic.
In 2007, Helienne also started writing the weekly column Behind The Music for the Guardian, covering and analysing all areas of the music business, from the creative process to issues surrounding copyright. In September 2012 her new column, Plugged In, launched on MediaGuardian.
Helienne contributed a chapter for the Swedish book Myten om Internet (The Myth of the Internet), published August 2012. She’s also written for Netopia, the Australian and STIM-Magasinet, and has appeared on Sky News, the BBC, Irish National Radio and Swedish National Radio. She remains active as a professional musician and songwriter to this day.
